The Jan Modelski Community Orchestra started their 2023 concert season in style last night, entertaining a packed St Mary's Creative Space in Chester with a varied programme of hugely popular works from the world of classical, film and theatre music.
A warm and receptive audience were treated to performances from all three orchestras - Introductory, Intermediate and Main - which included pieces such as 'The Blue Danube Waltz' (Strauss), a selection from 'Chicago' (Kander) and music from the film 'Atlantis' (Howard).
All players then combined into one super-orchestra for a thrilling finale, the highlight of which being a surprise performance of Sibelius' 'Finlandia' - a piece which had been rehearsed by the orchestra members over the internet during the COVID lockdown, but was now having its live premiere.
This concert was part of Chester Music Society's Showcase series, which aims to present a wide and varied programme of performances from local musicians and ensembles. To find out more and see who's playing next, visit our What's On page or the CMS website.
JMCO were also thrilled to have esteemed photographer Carlo Cerutti present at the concert - we can't wait to see his snaps! Find out more about Carlo here.
